The definition of Freedom is: Old English freodom "power of self-determination, state of free will; emancipation from slavery, deliverance"

There are keywords that stand out to me that I believe are significantly represented in today's poem. Those words are power. self- determination, emancipation, and deliverance. Words truly have power. The poem's central theme is freedom or liberation. Power is such a heavy word because it holds so much weight; the weight of expectation, responsibility, anticipation, and human desire. Self-determination is asserting your will to set intentions and to affirm your purpose. Believing you have the power to do any of that makes it a greater possibility that you actually will. This is why standing in your power is so important to me because you have to know you have the power to even own it or operate it. This is a fundamental part of self-mastery, discovery of self and what self possesses.

In this poem, I begin to tap into this power. I absolutely feel powerful to declare my freedom from the things that I allowed to enslave me. I stopped being the victim long enough to believe myself to be the victor. I believe when we choose to reject being the victim of our circumstances, we then are able to see the truth of who we really are and the possibility of who we can become. Also, we can tell our story more powerfully because when we aren't one-note, stuck in the mode of pain and victimization, we become aware of the other dynamics of our story that help lead transformation in self and in others.

This is the part of my story where I begin to own my power and begin to love myself on another level.
